The Northern Ringette League All-Star program promotes growth and development by allowing ringette players to play at the highest level of competition. The NRL program is available at the Tween, Junior and Belle levels.
Coaches
Eligible coaches are invited to apply and the selection is made by the members of the Northern League Executive.
The selection process is based on but not limited to qualifications (NCCP- National Coaches Certification Program), experience, and coaching philosophy.
Try-Outs
Evaluation camps (Try –Outs) are scheduled prior to the regular house league schedule and usually consist of 4-6 ice times. All eligible players are welcome to attend these camps. (Invitation letters are issued prior to the camps). Independent “Evaluators” assist the coach and bench staff in the team selection process. Coaches evaluate physical, technical, tactical and mental skills among other variables during this process.
In accordance with BC Ringette Association policy, players trying out for All-Star teams shall meet the following criteria:
- Shall be members in good standing with a BC member Association.
- Must be registered with their home association prior to the start of tryouts.
Once the team is selected, coaches routinely schedule ice and dry land training sessions intended to develop individual and team skills. Team bonding is always a high priority at this level of play. Policy requires that coaches give consideration to the “house league team” as a priority if there are conflicts.
Funding
The cost associated with this program is not funded by the League. Contributions from local associations, sponsors, players and their families help with the cost of travel, accommodations, team uniform, ice and other try-out fees.
Playdowns
Northern League All-Star teams play-off against the other league All-Star teams (Lower Mainland, TORL, & Island) each February at “Playdowns”. The winning team represents BC at the Westerns (Tween, Junior, Belle) or Nationals (Junior - Open). Playdowns rotate amongst the Leagues with the Westerns and Nationals rotating amongst the Provinces.
This program offers the players a great opportunity to develop on an elite team and improve individual skills, confidence, and friendships.
