Hosting a successful national tournament and growing by 27 per cent has earned the Prince George Ringette Association a provincial award.
The PGRA has been named organization of the year by the B. C. Ringette Association.
"WE won it primarily because we’re the smallest club ever to host the nationals, and because it was so successful, " said PGRA coaching coordinator and Northern B.C. League president Keith Sullivan.
"It was a lot of hard work, but it was certainly worth it. The nice thing about that one is we were nominated by quite a few clubs."
The 2000 Tim Hortons Canadian Ringette Championships were held at the Kin Centre and Multiplex.
The PGRA had 140 players last year, an increase by 30 from the previous season.
Long-time PGRA treasurer Nycole Ross was honoured as a community builder. Ross, who runs the club’s website, still suits up and takes to the ice as a goaltender for the local intermediate team.
The awards were handed out at the organization’s year-end barbeque.
Prince George Ringette is hosting Canada Winter Games try-outs the weekend of July 7, with close to 70 players expected to attend.
